The school year is in full swing and fall is well underway!
The Sir John A Day team has had a busy school year and we’re eager to tell you
all about it!

Registration: We are very excited by the number of teachers and other educators who have signed up on the Sir John A Day website for more information. We’ve also received a
few early bird emails asking about registration for the contest. Registration will “officially” open in early November, when all of the members on our sign up list will be sent an email, asking them to confirm their participation in the contest. celebrate the launch of Richard Gwyn’s eagerly awaited Nation Maker. Nation
Maker is the sequel to Gwyn’s critically acclaimed Sir John A. Macdonald biography
John A.: The Man Who Made Us and has been equally well received. Richard Gwyn has been nominated for the Hilary Weston Writer’s Trust Prize and a Governor General’s Literary Award!

CBC’s John A: The Birth of a Country Debuts Monday, September 19th!

The Sir John A Day team are excited to announce the debut of CBC’s John A: The Birth of a Country! On Monday, September 19^th tune in at 8 pm EST to watch this engaging two-hour political thriller, exploring Sir John A’s early years in politics, during the tumultuous time leading up to Confederation. Gemini-winner Jerry Ciccoritti directs an award-winning Canadian cast, including Shawn Doyle as the young Sir John A. Macdonald and Peter Outerbridge as his political rival, George Brown. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Canada’s first Prime Minister. A dreamer. A Father of Confederation. Sir John A. Macdonald’s accomplishments gave birth to a nation, but the life story of Canada’s first prime minister is not so very different from the story of thousands of immigrants who have come to Canada since that nation began.

The eldest son of working class Scottish immigrants, John A. Macdonald worked his way to political success, in the face of great personal tragedy. Fuelled by his determination to succeed, Sir John A. completed his law degree and was elected to the provincial legislature, where his political career took off. A visionary and an idealist, Sir John A. Macdonald championed the cause of Confederation, as he fought for and realized his dream of a Canadian nation that spanned sea to sea.Despite his critical role in Canadian history, many Canadians know very little about Sir John A. Macdonald’s life and accomplishments.

The Sir John A. Macdonald Project would like to see this change. We’re excited to get teachers and students across the country making history as they celebrate Canadian history on January 11, 2012. Visit our sign up page to join in the celebration!
